Watching a massive building in Zurich get moved
What’s 80 metres long, 123 years old and weighs 6200 tons? It’s the former headquarters of the tool and machinery factory, the MFO building, in Oerlikon. The building is actually being shifted 60 metres west of its current location right next to Oerlikon railway station in the north of Zurich, to make way for new tracks as part of the cross city rail link, the Durchmesserlinie that’s being put through Zurich. So how on earth do you get a building of this size to move? WRS’s Jo Fahy reports:
