Volatile grain prices put commodities traders in hot spot
Commodities traders may feel like they are walking on shifting sands these days, particularly when it comes to grain. One of the worst droughts in decades in the U.S. has sent corn and wheat prices through the roof, though they could soon dive down again. Add to that a call from the UN not to turn 40 per cent of U.S. yields into bio fuel for fear of another food crisis, and you understand why these are dicey times for commodity traders. Most operate right here in Switzerland, and WRS’s Lucas Chambers has been gauging their reaction:
