Vaud votes to legalize right to assisted suicide
Vaud is to become the first canton with a law guaranteeing the right to, as well as the conditions for, assisted suicide. Over the weekend, Vaud voters supported a counter proposal to the initiative of the assisted suicide group Exit. They had wanted the guarantee but with looser requirements. Well, by making assisted suicide a question of law, have its proponents gained official recognition of the right to die but lost control of how and when it is might be used? WRS’s Pete Forster speaks to Alex Mauron, director of the Biomedical Ethics Institute at Geneva University, who supports assisted suicide:
