Aid agencies await four-day ceasefire in Syria
Aid agencies are standing by in the hopes of delivering help to people who have been cut off by the violence in Syria. The Swiss-based United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) is among them. The idea of a four-day truce over the weekend to mark the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha was put forward by Lakhdar Brahimi, the UN and Arab League’s special envoy to Syria. The country’s military is reported to have agreed to the ceasefire, but it is not clear whether rebels will adhere to it. UNHCR spokesman Ron Redmond, who is in Jordan, tells WRS’s Dave Goodman more about the humanitarian situation on the ground:
