UNAIDS welcomes FDA approval of first anti-HIV pill
The Geneva based UNAIDS says it welcomes approval from American authorities of a new drug combination that helps prevent HIV. In one study, the combination of antiretrovirals, known as Truvada (emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate), was shown to decrease HIV transmission by 42 percent on average, and 73 percent at the higher end, for people who are HIV-negative.
