Too many Germans here? Debate rages on
The number of Germans living in Switzerland now stands at a quarter of a million—almost double what it was eight years ago. Almost a third of them live in canton Zurich—30,000 in the city of Zurich alone. Ten years ago, it was just 11,000. So perhaps it’s not surprising that there’s been a bit of German-bashing by the right-wing Swiss People’s Party ahead of local elections in the city. Now the media has leapt into the fray, and last night the Tages Anzeiger newspaper hosted a debate: How German is Zurich? Our reporter Vincent Landon, has more:
