Teacher's firing stirs up church and state controversy
Valentin Abgottspon, a teacher in the canton of Valais, says he’s been fired over an incident where he removed a crucifix from his classroom. The official reason was the catch-all “breakdown of confidence” between the employee and the school. Abgottspon is the regional president of the Freethinkers Society of Switzerland. WRS’s Jordan Davis and Conor Lennon speak to him and University of Fribourg professor René Pahud de Mortanges, a specialist in law and religion.
