Switzerland votes... on marijuana
The Swiss people get the chance this Sunday to vote whether or not to decriminalise marijuana. It’s an issue that’s sparked a lot of interest, explains WRS’s Jordan Davis.

This is a great opportunity for Swiss people to show how them and their country are way ahead of the rest of us “civilized western countries”. The ban on marijuana is just insane, and there are plenty of scientific evidence to support this statement. Please, trust your scientists.
Given the available evidence regarding associated health risks it appears that marijuana is less harmful than tobacco or alcohol. Furthermore I doubt that marijuana use automatically leads to the use of other drugs. There is no obvious argument for making the possession or use of marijuana a criminal offence any more so that of tobacco or alcohol.
I do not advocate marijuana, tobacco or alcohol use; of which I believe tobacco carries the most serious health risk. Moreover there is a need for accurate information regarding the use of all drugs, as for tobacco and alcohol, information that transcends financial interests, in order that the public can make an informed choice.
Abusers of any drug are frequently suffering from varying degrees stress or mental illness; that is an entirely separate issue and one that society needs to address.
In general I am against criminalisation of any drug as it enables the development of enormously powerful criminal groups that are able to generate vast financial turnover, with large profits for some and great hardship for many.
Vote decrim !
and thanks for doing it.
How demoralizing that the Swiss have chose to perpetuate the Americanization of Europe. Just go ahead and privatize your prisons and start filling them up! What’s really degrading is that I would bet most people who voted against decriminalizing marijuana drink alcohol, and that is just pathetic. I won’t waste my time or money in Switzerland next time I’m in the area. If I want to be around a bunch of intolerant hypocrits, I can just stay here and not worry about the jet lag.
