Show of hands gives way to technology at the Federal Palace
Technology has revolutionized the way we listen to music, the way we read the news and even the ways we get a date. And now the revolution comes to the old fashioned Council of States in Bern. That’s where Senators have traditionally voted by a show of hands. But those days are numbered. By a 21-to-20 vote, Senators accepted the principle of voting electronically. Whether people vote with a raised hand or with the push of a button may seem trivial but in the Federal Palace the issue is anything but—as WRS’s Jordan Davis reports:
