Prof on debates: 'The substance is almost irrelevant'

A forceful President Barack Obama put his Republican challenger Mitt Romney on the defensive on foreign policy in Florida last night, in the pair’s final televised debate ahead of next month’s election. But how much will the debates really affect the result on November 6? And where does each candidate stand, as we head into the final two weeks of campaigning? For some analysis, WRS’s Catherine Allen spoke to professor David Sylvan, a political scientist with the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva:
