Prof debunks idea that more working women would curb immigration
In Justice Minister Simonetta Sommaruga’s speech on May Day, she stressed the importance of balancing work and family life and went on to suggest that if Switzerland gave women workers family-friendly hours and equal pay we could reduce immigration. Compared with other industrialized countries, Switzerland has a relatively high rate of women in work. But most experts agree that’s tempered by the fact that so many work part-time. The connection made between women in work and immigration was unexpected for many. WRS’s Pete Forster talks to Jean-Marc Falter from the University of Geneva:
