Pants down to bring toilets into focus
Freddy Mercury, Charles Pictet-de-Rochemont and Ganymede—what do a rock star, a diplomat and a demigod all have in common? Yesterday their commemorative statues (in Montreux, Geneva and Zurich) all had their pants down to mark World Toilet Day. It sounds comical, but the message—sent by Swiss development organisation, Helvetas—is deadly serious, because a lack of toilets means disease and a loss of human dignity for 2.5 million people worldwide. WRS’s Conor Lennon speaks with Lucas Chambers who’s been following the story:
