Risk increases for becoming 'working poor'
The government has published new figures regarding the number of people in this country who, although they have a job, are struggling to make ends meet. People described as working poor often work part time, and often have few professional qualifications. Official data suggests that single parent families are also especially vulnerable. The report says that there is some good news though—the number of people who qualify as below this poverty threshold fell between 2008 and 2012—from a little more than 5 percent, down to 3.5 percent. To explore the figures a little further, WRS’s Catherine Allen spoke to Regula Heggli, head of social policy for the charity Caritas, in Switzerland:
