New synagogue opens in Geneva against national trend
The first major synagogue to be built in Switzerland for almost half a century is being officially inaugurated in Geneva today. It’s been built to accommodate the city’s growing Reform Jewish community—at a time when the Jewish population across Switzerland is on the decline and other synagogues are closing. Carla Drysdale invited Alfred Donath, former president of the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities, into the WRS studio to find out what’s behind the trend, and how it is that Geneva’s bucking it:
