MP proposes tax changes to give Bern more independence

Despite their very individual identities and often laws, the 26 Swiss cantons do like to band together to help each other out financially. A system of redistribution or equalization pushes money from the more prosperous cantons to those who might be struggling. One of the cantons that benefits is Bern, where Swiss People’s Party MP Rudolf Joder has proposed changing the tax system to make Bern more independent. He thinks Bern needs to solve its own problems. WRS’s Tony Ganzer spoke with University of Lausanne professor Andreas Ladner about the redistribution system and what he thinks of this proposal in Bern:
