'Isn't it better to improve public transport?'
The government’s public transport strategy for the next few years is slowly taking shape. Most recently, the transport committee of the Council of States voted overwhelmingly to allocate more money to improving the rail network than the Federal Council has suggested. They’re calling for a budget of 6.4 billion francs—that’s nearly double the 3.5 billion francs that cabinet members put forward. And, senators say, the difference should come from a rise in VAT—a rise of 0.1 per cent. WRS’s Dave Goodman talks to the Association for Transport and Environment’s head of transport policy, Caroline Beglinger. The association had put forward its own proposals:
