Is English the most economically viable second language?
It turns out that depends which side of the röstigraben you’re on. The decades-old debate over which language to teach as a second language in Switzerland shows no signs of abating. Some argue the focus should always be on learning national languages, others insist English is so important that it should be given priority. Professor François Grin at the University of Geneva has spent four years assessing the language question from a purely economic point of view. WRS’s Carla Drysdale called on him to explain his findings to us:
