Government computers slow to go 'open source'

A 42 million franc contract between the Federal government and Microsoft is being challenged in court. Eighteen “open source” software developers say they didn’t get the chance to bid on that deal. At the heart of the issue is the Swiss government’s slow adoption of open-source software. In fact, experts say Switzerland is falling behind its neighbors. Matthias Stürmer, spokesman for the Swiss Open Systems User Group, an association advocating for open-source technology, told WRS’s Jordan Davis that the government hasn’t even followed its own recommendations.
