Germany's Steinbrück campaigns against Swiss tax accord
Swiss voters will not go to the polls to decide on tax accords with Germany, the UK and Austria. Parliament breathed a sigh of relief as referendum organizers did not get enough signatures to challenge the tax accords, which were ratified in June. However in Germany, the tax deals have already been object of much debate, and one that could heat up even more. In the lead up to the German elections, campaigns have touched upon this issue. The views of Social Democrat candidate Peer Steinbrück, running against Chancellor Angela Merkel, on Switzerland have some worried about the tax deal and the banking sector in general.
