German-Swiss tax deal in 'wait and see' mode
The chances of Switzerland and Germany agreeing a deal on taxing secret offshore accounts have dropped dramatically. In the last two weeks, the head of Germany’s biggest opposition party has accused Swiss banks of “organized criminality” for helping rich Germans evade taxes. And last week , the state of North Rhine-Westphalia bought another CD containing information about the Swiss accounts of German tax evaders. WRS’s Vincent Landon spoke to Thorsten Riecke, head of editorial pages at Germany’s Handelsblatt newspaper and began by asking how seriously we should take the rhetoric from Germany:
