Geneva sets up crisis unit to deal with Merck closure

The canton of Geneva has set up a special crisis unit following yesterday’s announcement that Merck Serono would close down its Geneva headquarters. With some 1,250 people employees at the site, and the canton says its closure could overwhelm the unemployment system. Meanwhile, unions are trying to get Merck Serono employees organized. They’re hoping to hold a general assembly for employees this Friday.
