Swiss People's Party's first gay MP holds to right-wing views
Thomas Fuchs, an openly gay representative for Bern, is to be sworn in as one of three new members of parliament today. Fuchs is the first gay MP for the populist right-wing Swiss People’s Party. The party opposed the country’s civil unions law in 2005 and has a reputation for homophobia. But Fuchs hopes to show that you can be gay and still defend right-wing views.
