Fears of Islamic fundamentalism spark surveillance discussion
Worries over Islamic fundamentalism are back in the limelight. A young Swiss man who converted to Islam now runs a new Islamic Centre in Bern. Some of his views, notably on stoning adulterers, have whipped up a lot of media hype in recent days. It’s all built up to the Liberal Party asking for tougher security and surveillance. The goal is to prevent extremism say the Liberals, but one expert on Islam denounces a populist move that will achieve the opposite. Lucas Chambers has this story.
