Ex-intelligence boss says data thief abused trust
The Department of Defence is under pressure to explain how an employee of the Swiss Intelligence Services stole reams of classified information without being detected. It was revealed the database specialist wanted to sell the information abroad and was only caught when he decided to open a numbered bank account with UBS which roused suspicions. So is security within our security services severely lacking? WRS’s Dave Goodman spoke to the former director of the Swiss Intelligence Service, Peter Regli and began by asking how could such a large theft of data occur:
