Does Lausanne need injection centers after all?
Syringes next to playgrounds. Crack-laced tinfoil and blood-stained cotton wool on the grass. The signs of a drug problem out of control are rife in Lausanne. Five years ago, many were calling for injection centers, like those in Geneva, Zurich and a dozen Swiss cities, where addicts could inject drugs out of sight and under safe conditions. But when the idea was put to the vote, the people of Lausanne said “no.” Was it a mistake? WRS’s Lucas Chambers reports:
