Businessman cleared of charges in Libyan court

One of the two Swiss businessmen refused permission to leave Libya for over 18 months is apparently free to leave the country, according to his lawyer. Yesterday a court in Libya acquitted Rachid Hamdani of charges of conducting business in the country illegally and last week he successfully appealed a 16-month jail sentence for visa offenses. Hamdani has been prevented from leaving Libya since July 2008, following the arrest of Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi’s son Hannibal in Geneva. So will Hamdani really be coming home soon this time? WRS’s Carla Drysdale asks Alain Bovard, a legal advisor for the Swiss section of the human rights group, Amnesty International:
