Bern researchers devise new theory on creation of the moon
The old hypothesis goes like this: a giant mass, known as Theia, collides with the earth and then part of the Theia becomes the moon. However new research, which simulates this collision, suggests that as Theia crashed into the earth, bits from both the Earth and Theia formed the moon. Professor Willy Benz, from the Center for Space and Habitability at the University of Bern, is one of the co-authors on the new study. He explains their research to WRS’s Alex Helmick:
