Bern diploma sends politicians back to school

While newly-elected cabinet member Dider Burkhalter has a solid political background behind him, in theory at least, any Swiss citizen could have been voted into one of the countries highest offices this morning. Fortunately for any rookies who may in future manage to garner enough support to find themselves running the country, a diploma course in the canton of Bern aims to teach politicians at all levels everything they need to know.

Conor Lennon spoke to Christof Miesch, head of the Bernese cantonal office of communal affairs, and asked whether being a politician was a complicated job these days.

This was an excellent report! It has applications which could be adapted and applied to many levels of government. Creating an awareness of the basics in municipal government is to be applauded!!
