Bank clients bite back with lawsuit
Should the Swiss government be held responsible for banks transferring names of employees to U.S. authorities earlier this year? A lawyer representing some of those employees says yes. He says the government had no right to give the green light to 11 Swiss banks by saying they could cooperate with U.S. prosecutors and giving them information on employees with ties to American customers. Those banks, including Credit Suisse and HSBC, are under investigation for helping U.S. clients avoid taxes. WRS’s Jo Fahy talks to Geneva lawyer Douglas Hornung, who represents 40 or so bank employees:
