EU compared to Napoleon in National Day speech
One of the enduring traditions of Switzerland’s National Day is the political speech. Politicians both national and local speak to groups of citizens in town squares, giving their view of how they define this country. Six of the seven federal councilors gave speeches yesterday and for a government that’s supposed to speak with one voice the members of the government put forth very different visions of Switzerland’s place in the world and particularly in Europe. One federal councilor even compared the EU to Napoleon. WRS’s Jordan Davis celebrated his Swiss national day by following politicians’ speeches. He began by asking about that Napoleon comment:
