'Animal attorneys' debated in parliament

Should every canton have a public prosecutor whose sole job is to defend the rights of animals? That’s a question due to be debated in parliament today. The canton of Zurich appointed its own animal welfare attorney several years ago, a position that’s said to be unique in the world. The group Swiss Animal Protection wants all cantons to follow this example, saying a new animal rights law, introduced last year, is not being reliably enforced. The federal government, however, would prefer to leave it to cantons to decide. Lucas Chambers reports for WRS.
