An 'Americanization' of Swiss politics sparks debate
Should the people elect the Federal Council in Switzerland? As it stands, their MPs in Parliament do the job, but back in 2006, a coalition of them joined forces to expel Federal Councilor Christoph Blocher. The Swiss People’s Party didn’t appreciate the move, and filed an initiative to give the power to the people. The question’s now up for debate and most in the Council of States have already said “no”… with some intriguing exceptions as WRS’s Lucas Chambers reports:
