Activist: Baku illegally evicting people to prep for Eurovision

Almost a year ago the song Running Scared by Ell and Nicki charmed the whole of Europe. It triumphed over 42 other countries to win last year’s Eurovision Song Contest for Azerbaijan. The country already had a poor reputation for human rights. But with Baku hosting this year’s contest in two months’ time activists say it’s getting worse. They say the government is sprucing up the capital with illegal evictions and by taking away people’s land. Azerbaijani human rights activist Rasul Jafarov took those concerns to the Eurovision organisers of the European Broadcasting Union in Geneva yesterday. He’s heading up an initiative called Sing For Democracy. WRS’s Jordan Davis talks to Jafarov:
