Before the Euro 2008 football championships, it was all talk about how the games would be great for tourism, businesses and the Swiss economy as a while. Economic numbers out for June weren’t quite as rosy those predictions might have suggested: Retail sales slumped. Hotels were emptier than usual. WRS’s Jordan Davis rang up Sven Michal with the Growth and Competition Unit at the economics ministry in Bern to ask him whether or not Euro 2008 was much ado about nothing.
