Vincent Landon is Zurich Bureau Chief, dividing his time between covering events of economic and political significance and ensuring there is enough paper in the photocopier. He joined WRS at the launch four years ago, moving from Berlin where he worked for Al Jazeera International, Deutsche Welle TV and APM. A European Journalism Fellowship at Free University took him to Berlin in 2004.
Before that, he worked as a reporter and presenter at Swiss Radio International, later specialising in science and health and ending up as science editor. In 2003, he was named Internet Journalist of the Year in the European Online Journalism Awards, also winning the science category. In 2004 he won the Prix Italia for web content.
It was a long way from where he set out, studying medieval history, working as a researcher on a biography of T. E. Lawrence and dabbling in archaeology in Jordan. He opted for journalism after winning the Observer’s travel writer of the year competition, starting at local newspapers, then freelancing for the Sunday Express and Observer in London.
