If there’s radio DNA floating about, I got it in my blood at a tender age. The radio was always crackling away in the background at home in small-town Canada – Sarnia, the petro-chemical heart of the country, which straddles the U.S. border with the state of Michigan.
I didn’t stick around. After university in the nation’s capital, Ottawa, degrees in journalism and international relations in hand, I headed to Europe after stints as host of a current affairs show on national radio and political correspondent on national TV.
The televison news trenches in London and Lyon proved a natural habitat for me. I reported and presented a mix of international and financial news for the CBC, Euronews, BBC World and Reuters. I also conducted media training workshops for harried executives and humanitarian aid workers and fed my enduring interest in interior design and architecture by moonlighting in property renovation and furniture design.
It’s great to be back working in radio – the ultimate visual medium – and in such a spectacular setting. As pretty as my hometown was on the shores of Lake Huron, nothing beats the alpine views from my wraparound terrace.
