Lucas Chambers

Lucas Chambers

Canadian by birth, but Swiss through his mother, Lucas Chambers didn’t expect to end up reporting for Switzerland’s first national English radio station. He expected instead to spend most of his life on and under water, plying his first trade, oceanography. But a love for faraway places led him to try his hand at travel writing.

It was all a happy tumble into journalism from there. He began his career as a TV reporter at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, but a relationship with a Swiss woman led him to gladly give that up. So he ended up settling in Lausanne, peering through the chink in the local media’s door. And a mighty small chink he found it to be, with lots of eager beavers trying to squeeze in.

But with English his comparative advantage, he began freelancing for WRS, signing off on his first piece from the national yodelfest back in the summer of 2008. Two years later, he joined the team full time as WRS’s first Lausanne correspondent. And he promises to one day yodel on air if enough listeners ask him to.
