Ever since he was a child in the UK growing up in Manchester, Dave Goodman has found it hard to keep his mouth shut. A career in broadcasting seemed inevitable—what could be better than being paid to talk?
After three misspent years at the University of Glasgow studying “European Civilisation” (whatever that is), Dave worked in television, photographing fake diamond rings for a TV shopping channel amongst other things, waiting for his first break on the radio. It came providing traffic and travel news for rural England—where a herd of sheep can cause a major incident!
After several years reporting traffic, Dave went back to university to become a proper journalist. This led to three years working for the BBC—presenting and producing local radio shows. He also had his own weekly music programme and worked for national news station Five Live.
Having traveled extensively across Europe, a desire to live outside Britain took Dave to Amsterdam where he presented a daily European news and current affairs programme for Radio Netherlands, including live broadcasts from Brussels, Gdansk and Berlin.
Next stop was Euronews in Lyon where he covered international stories including the Chilean miners rescue and the Egyptian revolution, before the call to Geneva came - to wake up Switzerland every morning.
And yet his biggest ambition still eludes him—to host the Eurovision Song Contest!
