Catherine Allen

WRS News Catherine AllenEditor Catherine Allen first discovered Switzerland at the age of six, moving there with her family thanks to the United Nations. She went on to complete a degree at Oxford University in the UK, before returning to Switzerland to join the newsroom at World Radio Geneva.

Delivering news bulletins and working as a presenter on all of WRG and WRS’s live shows, she reported on events ranging from Switzerland’s nationwide vote to join the United Nations in 2002 and the Euro 2008 European football championships, hosted by Switzerland and Austria, to the launch of the Large Hadron Collider experiment at the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN) in 2010.

As a reporter, Catherine has travelled throughout Switzerland and further afield. Her travels allowed her to report on Switzerland’s approach to Climate Change in Copenhagen, on the life and work of Nobel Physics Laureate David Gross in Geneva and on dinosaur footprints in the canton of Jura.

Now, working with WRS reporters across the country, Catherine coordinates the newsroom’s output, while contributing occasionally to WRS’s morning programme, The National. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outside in Switzerland’s beautiful scenery, travel and football (the ‘soccer’ kind!).
