Food Scout: Sampling Grimentz's unique glacier wineThursday, 11 August, 2011Food Scout Amy Eber ventures high in the mountains to a village in the canton of Valais to learn about - and to sample - a true oddity in the wine world: Grimentz glacier wine. Each year, grapes are harvested and fermented in the valley below. Casks of the new wines are brought up the mountain to the naturally cool cellars, where they are decanted into barrels already containing a mixture of many older wines, some of which date back to the late 1800s. Visitors can make an appointment with the Grimentz/St-Jean tourist department to visit the cellars and sample the glacier wine:
