Polanski asks to be sentenced in absentia Thursday, 7 January, 2010 A judge in California is set to decide later this month whether to proceed with the sentencing of Roman Polanski in his absence. The film director is currently under house arrest in Switzerland awaiting extradition proceedings related to his 1978 child sex conviction. Our U.S. correspondent Daniel Ryntjes reports on yesterday’s hearing in Los Angeles:
Experts: Polanski case not likely to be dismissed Friday, 11 December, 2009 Legal experts in California say Roman Polanski is unlikely to win an important procedural appeal case there. Lawyers for the Oscar-winning director say the original 1977 child rape case should be dismissed. Polanski is currently under house arrest in his Swiss chalet, pending extradition proceedings to the United States. From Washington, Daniel Ryntjes reports:
Dateline CH: Waiting for Polanski Thursday, 10 December, 2009 Imogen Foulkes recalls a frustrating day spent in a crowd of journalists outside the Gstaad chalet of Roman Polanski on the day he was released on bail, and the inevitable disappointment which was to follow.
Polanski arrives quietly in Gstaad Friday, 4 December, 2009 Oscar-winning film director Roman Polanski arrived in the Swiss resort of Gstaad early this afternoon. He will be under house arrest and restricted to his chalet there. Polanski’s been in Swiss custody since he was arrested on a U.S. warrant on September 26, as he arrived in Zurich to receive a lifetime achievement award at a film festival. He was granted bail last week. WRS’s Conor Lennon speaks to our reporter Vincent Landon, who is in Gstaad this week:
After Polanski, further U.S. arrest warrants to follow? Wednesday, 14 October, 2009 The arrest of film director Roman Polanski has heightened fears about the extradition of Swiss citizens who may have been involved in U.S. tax evasion cases. Top lawyers in Washington say the Department of Justice will certainly have sent new arrest warrants to Interpol, based on recent tax fraud investigations. Daniel Ryntjes has more for WRS.
