Imagine: a North Romandie hub made up of the cantons of Jura and Neuchâtel and the French speaking part of Bern, otherwise known as the Bernese Jura. A poll put out by French-language public broadcaster Radio Suisse Romande and a number of regional newspapers asked the populations of these areas what they think of the idea of creating a “super-canton”—and a surprising 60 percent responded favourably. But in a country where cantons jealously guard their independence, could it actually happen?
